What is air pollution?

Air pollution occurs when the air is tainted or contaminated with substances that are harmful to living things and pollute the environment. These substances are called air pollutants.

Look at the below examples of air pollutants.

Examples of air pollutant:
  • Carbon dioxide
  • Carbon monoxide
  • Chlorofluoro-carbons
  • Dust, pollen
  • Lead compounds
  • Oxides of nitrogen
  • Smoke, soot, smog
  • Sulphur dioxide
